Freeze a card

  • updated 4 mths ago

You can temporarily freeze transactions at any time if you’ve misplaced a card or see unfamiliar payments on your account.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log in to the Mercury account associated with the card.
  2. Go to Cards from the lefthand menu.
  3. Find the last 4 digits of the card and click on it to open the card details.
  4. Click Freeze.

The card will be frozen immediately and all incoming transactions will be denied. Make sure you’ve switched your card info on any automatic payments set to run while the card is frozen, as those could be impacted.

If you’re freezing because you suspect fraudulent activity, you can dispute those transactions once the card is frozen.

It's worth noting that in some circumstances, if you've given a merchant pre-authorized permission to charge you, they may still be able to charge your frozen card. However, new merchants and merchants who do not have a recurring payment from you should not be able to bypass the frozen status.

Unfreezing a card

When you’re ready, you can click the blue Unfreeze button on your card details to restore usage immediately.

Canceling and replacing a card

If you’re unable to track down the card, you can easily cancel and replace it through your Mercury dashboard.
